Keys to Kindergarten Readiness: Activities for Preschoolers, Worksheets, Learning Games, Learn How to Read, Developmental Milestones, Sight Words, Positive Parenting, Christian Mom, Life Skills

Hey Mama! Welcome to Keys to Kindergarten Readiness I’m Shannon Ali. Daughter of the King, Wife, mom of 3 littles, teacher, speech-language pathologist, and kindergarten readiness expert! I remember what it felt like during the Covid lockdown in 2020, my husband was still working, and I was home by myself with our 3 year old, 1 year old, and a newborn baby girl all while still teaching school online. Needless to say, it was a crazy time, but I am thankful for God’s grace and lessons during that time. I felt like I wasn’t fulfilling my role as a mom. I didn’t know how to nurture my children’s gifts. I was putting academics in front of God’s Word, and we didn’t have a sense of discipline, organization, or family in our home even though it looked perfect from the outside. Then, I went into my Bible & back to my college books. I taught my then 3 year old how to read with quick easy lessons, and he tested off the charts for acceptance into the top school and preschool gifted program. I taught my kids about several black inventors to teach them perseverance and to build their self-esteem. I taught them life skills to help me around the house and to help them become more independent and confident. Most importantly, I grew deeper in my personal faith, and I was able to start planting seeds in my children’s hearts and teach them so much about God. Solutions I’m here to teach you everything I know about faith, family, and fun learning. In this podcast, you will learn: -Ways to help your child build a personal relationship with Jesus -Tips for positive parenting, life skills, and building a stronger family -Engaging on-the-go strategies for teaching your child everything they need to know to be ready for kindergarten even when you’re busy Learn: www.keystokindergartenreadiness.com Connect: keystokindergartenreadiness@gmail.com Community: https://bit.ly/3K8RTP3 Facebook: Keys to Kindergarten Readiness

My boys seem like they are obsessed with video games, and I absolutely cannot stand it. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that we all have something we can become addicted to if we are not careful. During VBS this summer, I had the opportunity to teach all the children about this very thing. This world is full of idols and one of our jobs as moms is to teach our children about not worshiping false idols. Today, I am going to tell you all about teaching your child about our BIG GOD and how this can help with reducing idols for your child AND for you! Let's Dig In!
Shout to my friend Jen Strange for putting together this curriculum.

Are you confused about which letters to teach your child first? You are not alone, Momma. If you were to go into a room of teachers and ask this question, many of them would have a different answer. I have used various teaching orders such as ABC order, s,a,t,i,p,n, and more. Honestly, all of them have worked, BUT today I am going to give you the first 5 letters to teach your child, so she can start reading quickly! Let’s Dig In!
Recap
1. Teach Letter/Sounds in Child's Name
2. Teach Vowel /a/
3. Teach Consonants
   -Continuous Sounds /l/, /m/, and /n/
   -Stop Sound /t/
After learning these sounds, your child will be able to blend to read 5 VC words: Al, am, an, and at.

I had a grandmother reach out to me recently about how to help her granddaughter learn her tricky words for kindergarten. She said they had practiced the tricky words using several different fun activities such as magnetic letters, writing the words with different marker colors, bingo, but her granddaughter was still struggling with several of the words on the list. They were both becoming frustrated with reading. This is a common question I get asked, so I have 3 tips to help you help your child to master those tricky sight words.

Do you constantly say to yourself, ”I wish I had more time to help my child learn how to read?” My children learned to read at age 3, but our daughter didn’t have as strong of reading skills as her older brothers. During that time, I was so overwhelmed with work and life that I rarely read her any bedtime stories.  It wasn’t until I audited my time that I realized I honestly wasn’t investing enough time to see the results I wanted to see.
After looking at several reading programs, it appears it often takes anywhere from approximately 12-30 hours to years of instruction to teach a child to read. This obviously varies depending on MANY factors such as the level of reading you’re trying to achieve, your kiddo’s age, attention span, language development, and the other literacy skills your child already has, but time spent focusing on reading goals really does matter. Today, we are going to audit your time to help your child quickly learn how to read. Let’s Dig In!

Setting goals is a fundamental aspect of teaching your child to read. However, simply having goals is not enough; they must be structured in a way that makes them achievable and meaningful.
I have definitely set several generic goals in the past such as “I will read books with my child more” or “I will practice reading with Naomi more” and those things didn’t really happen because there was not a clear road to what success was.
When I set SMART goals and shared them with my kids or my students, they excelled because they “understood the assignment.” Haha! Today we are going to learn about Making SMART Reading Goals for your Child. Let’s Dig in!
